Notes:

While it is possible to multiply mixed numbers using areas of rectangles, the best way is to change all mixed numbers into improper fractions!

eg:

$=3\frac12 \cdot 2\frac34$

$=\frac72 \cdot \frac{11}4$

$=\frac{77}8$

It is worth remembering that any whole number can also be changed into an improper fraction by making the denominator a 1

eg:

$=3 \cdot 2\frac34$

$=\frac31 \cdot \frac{11}4$

$=\frac{33}4$
